The Scout Association of Independence was founded on the eve of November 22, 1971 at the Antonine University in Baabda by Mr. Armand Albert Tamrez, Michel Joseph Aoun, Antoine Elias Sahyoun and Marie Claude El Helou, and the presence of the Father Elias Atallah, President of the University. This association was known as Scouts of Independence after its foundation on the eve of the independence of the Lebanese Republic. Mr. Armand Tamrez was appointed president of the association, the General Commissioner appointed was Chief Michel Joseph Aoun and Father Albert Cherfane was assigned as the General Consultant.
The association received its license as a "Christian National Association" by Decree No. 7 A / D of the Ministry of Interior January 3, 1973 (see next page). It joined the Federation of Scouting in Lebanon during the 1992-1993 Scout year.
Its aim is to educate young people to appreciate the Lebanese Christian faith and teachings of the founder of the world Scouting, Lord Baden Powell, in order to direct them to become good citizens and well adapted within the historical, social and cultural conditions without being integrated or affected by Lebanese political parties. The Scout Association in Independence adopted the international mission of Scouting, "For a Better World" and works for the following purposes:
The discipline of personality
Health development
The development of manual skills
The service of the motherland
Knowledge of God
And in a way to expand this noble mission, the Antonine Maronite Order and specifically St. John Monastery in Ajaltoun, have well received, raised and established St. John – Group since 1997 in collaboration with the group chief leader, Carlos Sfeir that along with a group of well trained and responsible leaders, started on developing and enriching the group, and setting all their skills and potentials into the service and the well-being of the group’s members.
The group today, with the huge collaborations of chief of group William Rizk and all the members of the group leaders, consists of 140 active members that are surrounded with a huge support of all the materials, skills and care they require to live this wonderful experience.
